Barbie's Accessories Recalled

Photo from MSNBC News.

My husband passed the newspaper to me this week, and pointed to the article focusing on more Mattel toy recalls. This time, on Barbie accessories. I dont have to read it to realize that these toy recalls are irritating me to the max. We simply both declared, 'no more Barbie's for the kids.'

With two girls, Barbie products are always the winner when it comes to toys. And Barbie dolls and her millions of accessories are not cheap, mind you. And now, this? Give us a break!

Mattel recalls various Barbie accessories because the surface paints on the toys contain excessive levels of lead. Here is the lead story from MSNBC News.
Mattel announced late Tuesday it was recalling 800,000 toys, including 675,000 accessories for one of the company’s biggest sellers, the Barbie doll. Also part of the recall, the third in just over a month, were 90,000 units of Mattel’s GeoTrax locomotive line and about 8,900 Big Big World 6-in-1 Bongo Band toys, both from the company’s Fisher-Price brand. The Big Big World products were sold nationwide from July through August of this year, while the GeoTrax toys were sold from September 2006 through August of this year. Read more.

wow! i've heard about this news nga and I understand you, it's really irritating. some people here start to be more vigilant on any product 'made in *somewhere else than europe*'. but if for example you eliminate at least the toys in 'made in china' here, you will probably pass on 95% of the products.. and the rests are of course, very expensive!

Hi Raq,
We haven't bought Lil K barbies. All of them are just given to her. But you know what she gets tired of them pretty easily. My daughter would rather play with boxes, snails, scrap wood and of course dress-up clothes.

This is the second time they recalled a batch of products. I received a letter from a place where I bought a LAZYTOWN toy. When I contacted Mattel the girl said the toys they were recalling are from one Chinese factory. I was really scared because the toy I bought was suspected of LEAD! And it was a walk-man type with earphones and my friend's baby was sucking on it last week. Hay. Buti di naman pala affected yun. WHEW.

analyse-- did u know of this book in which the author from US tried not to use anything coming from China for a year and failed? dito rin, most of the toys come from china, there are just three companies who still manufacture their toys here in germany!

KK - my kids like to play dress up, too. and are busy with artworks, but it is still irritating coz we unintentionally invite these dangerous products in our house!

mitch, what do you think the people in pinas would do? proper disposal should also be implemented. kasi kung sa basura lang, iikot din yung danger.

auee -- now that was scary!

mom -- we've told the kids our decision. no more mattel nor toys from china for christmas. they understand the reasons.
